Determinance

Determinance is an indie freeform swordfighting game based on the Torque Game Engine. I created most of the levels, textures, and environment prop models for it. The Determinance team (Mode7Games) was top notch and great to work with.

The cool thing about Determinance is that you control the movement of the sword by moving the mouse, so you can fight in any way you like (instead of using only predefined “moves”). It won GameTunnel’s “Innovation Game of the Year” award.

The following are some of the maps I made for it:

Spine

Inspired by the San Gabriel mountains/foothills near Harvey Mudd College where I did my undergrad studies, and the spikey cellphone towers jutting out from their ridgelines.

Canyonlands

Inspired by the otherworldly canyons and desert around Moab, Utah – an amazing place everyone should visit at least once in their lifetime.

Emerald

Vaguely inspired by the Na Pali coast in Kauai.
